Our rates include
Comprehensive insurance, Third party insurance, local tax (vat), unlimited mileage, 24hr road assistance and breakdown service*, road licensing fees, vehicle maintenance.
Our rates exclude
Excess waiver options, Airport Fee, fuel supplied with the car, hire of baby seats, satellite navigation systems, special cleaning.
Fuel Policy
We operate a prepaid fuel policy whereby cars are supplied with a half or full tank of fuel. Renters are advised to return vehicles empty as no refunds are given for unused fuel at the end of the rental. Due to refuelling logistics, we charge a higher rate per litre compared to the normal pump prices.
Airport Fee
Airport Surcharge applies to all bookings which are collected from Malta Airport. The price of the surcharge will be €25.00. This is paid on collection.
Late returns
Vehicles returned later than the time or place stipulated on the rental agreement contract, irrespective of the time of commencement of rental, will be given a grace period of one hour, after which a full day’s rental will be charged. Additional collection fees, administrative and out of hours charges may also be applicable if a vehicle is returned late without prior notice.
The same clause will apply to rentals terminated at a different location than stipulated on the rental contract.
Condition of vehicle on return
Vehicle must be returned in the same condition as when rented except for expected dust, dirt, wear & tear. Charges will apply to for cars returned with wet upholstery and/or excessive dirt and stains requiring special cleaning. The minimum fee will be €50.
CREDIT/DEBIT CARD
You need a physical credit card to formalize the contract. VISA /MASTERCARD will be required and presented to cover any extras such as excess deposit, damage/loss of keys or extra days. Maestro and Electron Cards are not accepted for guarantee only for payment. Payments can be taken from any third party credit cards but the hirer will require a Credit Card on his/her name. Debit cards* are not accepted for excess deposit only for payments. American Express Card, Cash payments are not accepted.
*Debit/Revolut Cards are ONLY accept when client purchases the FDW insurance. This can be purchased on collection when collecting your vehicle. This way you don’t need a credit card.
Contactless or tap payments are not accepted for excess deposits; a physical card must be presented.
CHIP & PIN CARDS PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR PIN NUMBER AS WE CANNOT PROCESS ANY TRANSACTION WITHOUT YOUR PIN.
Pre Authorization Deposits:
Deposit will be blocked on the renter’s credit card for a period of up to 1 month from start of rental. Pre-authorized amounts are unblocked automatically by the issuing credit card company.
Payments:
Payments are not charged online when placing the reservation and full amount is charged on collection.
STANDARD RENTAL INSURANCE AND OPTIONAL INSURANCES
Requirements on collection:
Hirer must present a valid driving license and credit / debit card with en raised numbers on hirers name.
If hirer doesn’t have a credit/debit card he/she can use a third party credit/debit card which car holder needs to be present and must purchase the FDW insurance.
Vehicle Guarantee:
If vehicle is not collected within 45min of booking time your booking will be cancelled and any payments done against your booking will not be refunded.
Age Requirements
Our standard policy covers drivers 23 years of age and over and 2 years experience.
Drivers Over 70 years and Drivers between 21-22 will be charged €8 per day extra and between 23- 24 years will be charged €5 per day extra.
DRIVERS.
There will be a main driver , and you can add up to three additional drivers with a charge per day.
Full Damage Waiver (F.D.W) Insurance
The renter may optionally purchase Full Damage Waiver insurance (F.D.W) to waive 80-100% of the standard excess liability in case of any damage / accident / theft / vandalism etc.
The vehicle’s insurance policy is subject to strict terms and conditions, most important of which are outlined below.
Excess Deposit:
Varies depending on car model value is between €1300 to €4800
Accidents or Damages
The Hirer must contact us at the first possible instance following any road accident or damage to the vehicle no matter how minor or the way the damage occurred. Our staff will assist and instruct the necessary procedure for legal and insurance requirements. The Hirer will be required to file a police or traffic warden report and then visit our nearest location to compile an insurance claim and other required formalities. Payment of the applicable excess charge, claim administration fee (detailed below) or repair costs (depending on the circumstances) will be required right away.
Failure to complete the necessary formalities (report, insurance claim etc…) at the first possible instance may automatically void insurance cover making the renter liable for all repair costs of the rented car and third parties, including loss of use of the vehicle whilst it is being repaired.
Exceptions to the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
The full damage waiver insurance exempts the renter from paying an excess charge required to open an insurance claim. However any damage to the following is not covered by the vehicle’s insurance and is payable by the renter: Antenna, trays, car key, damage to car lock , personal belongings, GPS Navigation systems, loss or damage to keys , windshield wipers, glass, mirrors, wheels& rims, tires, spare key and car jack, hubcap, lights, gas cap, warning triangles, damage to the upholstery of the car, extreme dirtiness in the car, underside damage, damage due to negligence, tire punctures and burst tires, fuel errors, damage to child seats and baby seats, flat battery due to negligence.
Vehicle damages
Vehicles will be checked for existing damages by our staff prior to commencement of rental. Any damages will be noted and marked in a vehicle damage report which the renter must sign when collecting the vehicle. Renters are urged to check the vehicle properly at the start and the end of their rental and to notify our staff of any damage not found on the damage report.
Any insurance or excess waiver option purchased will automatically be voided if damages are not reported as outlined above.
Personal belongings
Any vehicles left in the car during or at the end of a rental are the renter’s responsibility. We will not be held liable for any damage, loss or theft of any belongings left in the rented vehicle.
The excess amounts for which renters are responsible are determined by the rental company and not by the insurance company.
Baby Seat Hire
Child seats, newborn baby seats and child booster seats are available for hire at a daily charge.
Clients are advised that our staff do not fit baby seats in the car. Baby seats must be fitted by the renter.
24hr Road assistance & breakdown service
Breakdown assistance includes a basic level of cover in the event of an accident or breakdown.
If the rental vehicle is damaged during the rental period the cost of repair is covered, following an additional payment of excess.
Basic cover, however, does NOT include damage caused intentionally or by negligence such as leaving the car lights on, causing a flat battery; damage caused by failure to use correct fuel; damage caused as a result of a breach of the rental agreement; damage caused to the windscreen; damage caused to the tires such a punctures.
Roadside Breakdown Assistance is only applicable to the island of Malta, and excludes the island of Gozo.
Should roadside assistance be required, when not covered by the company, the following rates need to be paid and settled, directly with the Towing Company Service that provides assistance, and not to our company:
Malta Roadside Breakdown Assistance Fee – €45-€75.
Gozo Roadside Breakdown Assistance Fee – €50-€170.
Flat & punctured tyres
The 24hr road assistance contractors will provide assistance to replace a flat tyre ( at a service fee ) with the spare wheel; however tyres, rims and wheels are not covered by rental insurance or FDW insurance . Tyres, wheels and/or rims damaged during rental are at the renters’ expense. A service fee will be charged.
Parking tickets / Traffic violations /Speeding Fines
Customer is responsible to pay all fines before the departure. For any fines paid through the Lessor customer will be responsible to pay for an administration fee of € 47,20 VAT included. At the end of the rental period, if customer provides a proof of the payment of the traffic fine no amount will be charged by the Lessor (traffic fines may be paid at any Local Council Office or online at http://www.les.gov.mt).
Lost & stolen car keys
Car keys are not covered by the vehicle’s insurance. The renter is responsible for any loss or damage to the car key during rental. In cases where a vehicle is locked inside the car or lost a charge will apply for delivery of the spare key and any work involved to replace the lost key. In the event that the car key is lost, the renter is required to file a police report and will be responsible for the cost to replace, cut and recode the key(s). A charge for loss of use of the vehicle may also apply since the vehicle cannot be rented out without a spare key.
Delayed Collections
A parking fee of €25.00 + VAT will apply if vehicles collected after 1hr from original booking time. Subject if the vehicle is still available
No refunds will be given for rentals ended early, late collections, no shows or cancellations made after the rental start date, even if cancellation protection is taken.
Early Returns
No refund will be offered for early returns.
PICK UP FEE:
VALLETTA FERRY TERMINAL COLLECTIONS WILL INCUR AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE OF €28.
CANCELLATION OF BOOKINGS.
Bookings can be cancelled with a full refund up to 72 hours before the rental starts.
If clients decides to cancel the car rental reservation on collection the client will be charge the full rental fee amount as a cancellation charge.
No Show Bookings:
A booking is considered a no show after 1 hour from booking collection time. The booking will be cancelled and full amount will be charged to the credit/debit card we have on file as a cancellation fee.
Flight Information
Flight information is required for all airport rentals. Suncarrentalsmalta.com will not be held responsible if a car is not prepared for a client on their arrival should the correct flight information not have been provided.
Car Models:
The vehicle shown in the photo is only a sample. Suncarrentalsmalta.com does not guarantee an exact match to the Make / Model seen in the photo.
Jurisdiction.
This agreement shall be governed and construed in accordance with the law of the land on which it is signed.The questione that arise under the contract between the Lessee and the Lessor are within the jurisdiction of the Courts for the registered office of the leasing company.Terms of booking on this website
Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice.
Vehicle capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you
